A double flanged butterfly valve is the heaviest, most rigid design among butterfly valve types. Featuring integral flanges on both ends of the valve body, it is bolted directly to the pipeline on both upstream and downstream sides. This design provides greater mechanical strength, easier alignment, and the capacity to handle larger diameters and higher pressures compared to wafer or lug types.
Unlike wafer valves that are sandwiched between flanges or lug valves with threaded inserts, the double flanged body is self-supporting and can independently carry pipe bending moments and axial loads. This makes it the preferred choice for long-distance pipelines, vibrating systems, and demanding high-pressure applications.
Available in sizes from DN50 to DN2000+ and pressure ratings up to PN40 / Class 300, double flanged butterfly valves are widely used in water treatment, chemical processing, power generation, HVAC, fire protection, and oil and gas industries.
As a direct OEM/ODM manufacturer with over 19 years of export experience, Tianjin Worlds Valve Co., Ltd. delivers fully customizable double flanged butterfly valves–materials, sizes, pressure ratings, flange standards, coatings, and actuators–all tailored to your exact specifications. Our products are exported to more than 50 countries and backed by ISO 9001 (certified by LRQA), CE, UKCA, WRAS, and ACS certifications.
Self-Supporting Body–Integral flanges make the valve self-supporting, capable of carrying full pipe bending moments and axial loads independently–eliminating the need for additional pipe supports at the valve location.
Superior Stability–The rigid bolted connection maintains alignment and sealing integrity even under high pressure, thermal cycling, and pipeline vibration.
Easier Installation–Integral flanges simplify mounting and centering between pipeline flanges. No complicated alignment procedures–just bolt it in place.
Bidirectional Dead-End Service–Supports isolation and removal of pipe sections on either side while the valve remains closed and sealed–a capability wafer valves cannot provide.
High Pressure Tolerance–Available in ratings from PN6 to PN40 and Class 150 to Class 300, making them suitable for high-pressure applications where wafer and lug valves cannot be used.
Large Diameter Capability–Available in sizes up to DN2000+ (80″+), making them the go-to choice for large-diameter piping systems.
Wide Temperature Range–With appropriate material selection, these valves operate reliably from -29°C to +200°C+.
Corrosion Protection–Available in ductile iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, and exotic alloys, with standard epoxy coating (250μm minimum) for superior corrosion protection.
Component | Material Options |
Body | Ductile Iron (GGG40/500-7), Cast Iron, Carbon Steel (WCB), Stainless Steel (CF8/CF8M), Duplex, Super Duplex |
Disc | Ductile Iron (coated), CF8, CF8M, Aluminum Bronze, Duplex, Super Duplex, PTFE-encapsulated |

All valves feature a standard ISO 5211 top flange, providing universal interchangeability for various actuation methods:
Hand Lever–Quick manual on-off control with locking plate (smaller sizes)
Gear Operator–Self-locking with open-close indicator (larger sizes)
Electric Actuators–On-off or modulating types with 4-20 mA feedback, manual override, PLC/SCADA integration
Pneumatic Actuators–Double-acting or spring-return (fail-safe) designs
Hydraulic Actuators–High-torque, subsea, or explosive environments
Chainwheel Operators–For overhead or inaccessible installations
Custom actuator interfaces are available upon request.
Understanding the differences between butterfly valve connection types is essential for proper selection:
Feature | Wafer Type | Lug Type | Double Flanged Type |
Connection Method | Sandwiched between flanges; bolts pass through both flanges | Threaded lugs; each side bolted independently | Integral flanges; bolted directly to pipe flanges on both ends |
Self-Supporting | No–relies on pipe flanges for support | Partial–can support one side | Yes–fully self-supporting |
Dead-End Service | No | Yes (one side) | Yes (both sides) |
Pressure Rating | Low to Medium (PN10–PN16) | Medium (PN10–PN25) | High (PN16–PN40+) |
Size Range | DN50–DN600 | DN50–DN1200 | DN50–DN2000+ |
Weight | Lightest | Medium | Heaviest |
Cost | Lowest | Medium | Highest |
Best For | HVAC, water, compact systems | Maintenance isolation, dead-end service | High-pressure, large-diameter, critical systems |
When to choose double flanged:
Your system operates at high pressure (PN25 or higher)
Your pipeline diameter is large (DN300 or larger)
You need a self-supporting valve that can carry pipe loads
You require bidirectional dead-end service capability
Your application involves hazardous, corrosive, or high-temperature media
Long-term reliability and minimal maintenance are critical
Industry | Application |

Our customers choose us for three reasons:
1. Quality that's certified, not claimed.
Our ISO 9001:2015 certification comes from LRQA–one of the world's most respected certification bodies. Every valve we ship comes with material certificates and pressure test reports. No exceptions.
2. Experience that saves you time.
19 years in the valve business. Thousands of double flanged butterfly valves shipped to 50+ countries. We know what works, what doesn't, and how to get your order right the first time.
3. Flexibility that fits your project.
DN50 to DN2000+. PN6 to PN40. Any flange standard. Any actuator. Any coating. We build to your spec, not our catalogue.
Every project is different. We treat it that way.
Send us your requirements–size, pressure, media, temperature, materials, actuator type–and let our engineers recommend the optimal configuration. We'll respond with a detailed quotation within 24 hours.
