A PTFE wafer butterfly valve is designed for applications where chemical resistance and fluid purity are non-negotiable. The wafer body sits between two pipe flanges, keeping the face-to-face dimension short and the overall weight low–a practical choice for chemical dosing skids, pharmaceutical clean utilities, and retrofit projects where space is tight.
This model pairs a ductile iron body with a CF8M (AISI 316) stainless steel disc fully encapsulated in PTFE, a PTFE seat, and a 17-4PH stainless steel stem–rated at Class 150 and operated by a hand lever with locking plate.
The PTFE encapsulation on the disc and the PTFE seat work together to create a chemically inert wetted path. With a pH resistance range of 0 to 14, PTFE handles concentrated acids, caustics, solvents, and oxidizers that would rapidly degrade elastomeric seats or corrode unlined metal components. The 17-4PH stem–a precipitation-hardening stainless steel with tensile strength up to 1,100 MPa–provides the mechanical strength needed for reliable torque transmission through thousands of cycles.

1. Wafer Type Design–Compact & Space-Saving
Short Face-to-Face–The wafer body fits between two pipe flanges, requiring minimal pipeline length–ideal for chemical dosing skids and compact plant layouts.
Lightweight–Significantly lighter than flanged or lug designs, simplifying handling and reducing structural load on piping supports.
Fast Installation–Simply center the valve between flanges and tighten the through-bolts–no welding, no threading, no special tools required.
2. Disc–CF8M Stainless Steel with PTFE Full Encapsulation
Zero Metal Contact–The CF8M core is fully encapsulated in PTFE, ensuring no metal surface touches the process fluid. This eliminates corrosion, pitting, and contamination risks entirely.
Chemically Inert Surface–PTFE resists virtually all industrial chemicals across the full pH range of 0–14, including concentrated sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, and organic solvents.
Structural Integrity–The CF8M stainless steel core provides rigidity and strength, while the PTFE encapsulation delivers the chemical resistance and sealing performance.
Non-Stick Surface–The smooth PTFE surface prevents buildup and simplifies cleaning – particularly important in pharmaceutical and food-grade applications.
3. Seat Material–PTFE
Universal Chemical Resistance–PTFE withstands a pH range of 0–14, making it compatible with almost all aggressive media except molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine.
Wide Temperature Range–PTFE maintains dimensional stability and sealing properties from -200℃ to +260℃ , covering both cryogenic and elevated-temperature process conditions.
Low Friction–PTFE's low coefficient of friction reduces operating torque and extends seat life, even after repeated cycling.
Bubble-Tight Shut-Off–The PTFE seat compresses against the encapsulated disc to deliver zero-leakage sealing per API 598.
4. Stem Material–17-4PH Stainless Steel
High Strength–17-4PH is a precipitation-hardening stainless steel offering tensile strength up to 1,100 MPa–significantly higher than 304/316, ensuring reliable torque transmission.
Excellent Corrosion Resistance–With 15.5–17% chromium and 3–5% nickel, 17-4PH resists corrosion in water, mild chemicals, and marine atmospheres, outperforming standard martensitic grades.
Wear Resistant–The hardened surface resists galling and fretting during repeated cycling, extending the operational life of the stem-to-bearing interface.
Blow-Out Proof Design–Retention mechanism prevents accidental stem ejection under pressure surges, designed per API 609 standards.
5. Hand Lever Operation–Simple & Reliable
Quarter-Turn Control–The lever rotates 90° from fully open to fully closed, providing fast, precise flow control.
Locking Plate Included–The lever features a locking plate that holds the valve in position and prevents accidental operation during maintenance.
ISO 5211 Mounting–Standardized top flange allows easy upgrade to electric or pneumatic actuation if needed.
6. Class 150 Rating–Standard Pressure Capability
Wide Compatibility–Class 150 is the most common pressure rating for industrial piping systems in North America and many other regions, ensuring easy integration with existing flanges. The cold working pressure (CWP) rating for Class 150 butterfly valves is typically 285 psi (20 bar) .
Reliable Performance–The ductile iron body and 17-4PH stem handle Class 150 service with a safety margin, even under pressure surges and thermal cycling.
PTFE wafer butterfly valves with encapsulated disc and PTFE seat are trusted across a wide range of industries:
Chemical Processing–Acids, alkalis, solvents, oxidizers, and aggressive media.
Pharmaceutical–High-purity water, CIP/SIP systems, sterile processing.
Food & Beverage–Acidic foods, cleaning agents, sanitary fluids.
Semiconductor–Ultra-pure water, electronic-grade chemicals.
Water Treatment–Chlorine, ozone, chemical dosing.
